◈ The main differences and similarities
The main differences between press photograph and art photograph are purpose, subject of photograph, and rules of photograph. Press photograph is a form of photography used to inform or report the truth to the public. The press photograph includes messages which reflect social problem, and photographer criticize problems indirect ways through photographs. Also press photograph take a picture that includes message for situation or problem. Press photography has a code of ethics and rules which include timeliness, accuracy, accountability to the public, and facts reported.

The first photograph that I chose was taken by Jeff J Mitchell. It is a picture of Colleagues of firefighter Ewan Williamson gather in torrential rain outside St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. It was shot July 22nd,2009

The second photo was shot by Mark Condren. It is a picture of A man stand at the ruin of a church after the earthquake struck Haiti. It was shot January 26th,2010
Photo by Frederike Helwig. On the contrary, art photograph is a form of photography used to express photographer's feeling and vision. A common misconception is characteristic of art photograph. It is not like commercial photography as well as it is not produced to sell a product or promote an image. Photographer takes a picture whatever he wants and expresses various feeling to the public. Also there is no regulation so that photographer can edit or change picture from original.
Photo by Bela Borsodi. However, both two photographs have similarities such as message of photograph and qualification of photographer. As I mentioned, both press and art photograph include message. Even though their purpose and subject of photo is different, both two photographs try to bring up the message to the public. Also photographer requires visual sense and photography skills so that take a right picture with good condition.
◈ Is it ethical and acceptable to alter art photographs? Why? Why not?-
There is no rules for art photograph. Art photograph can change or edit depends upon photographer, because only photographer can bring up meaning in to photo. Therefore, art photograph is ethical and acceptable to alter art photograph
◈ Is it ethical and acceptable to alter press photographs? Why? Why not?
No, because press photography has a code of ethics and rules which include timeliness, accuracy, accountability to the public, and facts reported, and the photographer must follow the rules to convey the truth not alter it in anyway.
